Balatro is a deck-building roguelike game loosely based off of the rules of poker. Your goal is to earn chips by playing various poker hands such as a flush, a straight, or a three of a kind from the cards in your hand, and to earn as many chips as possible. There are many ways to earn chips faster, like the planet and tarot cards that upgrade the value of certain hand types or certain cards, along with a collection of joker cards that you can use to drastically alter the way you play the game.

Balatro is an incredibly easy game to pick up and play on the go, but it’s really easy to spend way too much time on the game and procrastinate on things you need to get done, such as possibly two posts on your online blog before a deadline of midnight, so if you decide this game seems interesting I’d advise you to be careful and play in moderation. This isn’t based on personal experience, of course.

Balatro also has a wide selection of difficulty modes and ways to play the game that it won’t get boring very easily, with each new difficulty unlocking upon your completion of the previous one. This game also inspires me to do my best with my own endeavors, as it was created by a single developer in his room and became extremely successful. Thank you for reading this entirely unnecessary blog post. I hope your day is going better and is less stressful than my night is right now.

Hi Aakash,
This was such a fun read 😂 I enjoyed how you explained the game mechanics clearly while keeping the tone light and relatable. The “play in moderation” disclaimer definitely made me laugh. It’s cool how you connected the game’s design to inspiration from a single developer’s success too; that adds a nice personal reflection beyond just describing the game. Also, the procrastination honesty is very real. I think we’ve all been there before a deadline. Hope your night ended up less stressful!
Thanks for sharing,
Aika
