A Dance of Fire and Ice (shortening this to ADOFAI for convenience) is a rhythm game I really thoroughly enjoy. The concept is very simple: you control two revolving orbs that travel along a path, and you need to hit any key on your keyboard at the exact moment one of them lands on the path. Which is simple and fun when the game looks like this:

But gets a little more challenging once the game starts to look more like this:

There are some symbols on the path that you need to watch out for, like the clockwise/counterclockwise indicators that will make your orbs start revolving in the other direction, indicators that speed up or slow things down, or even indicators that require you to hold down a key, or hit multiple keys at once. But it’s important to remember that it is at its core a rhythm game, so when things really start to become incomprehensible you need to start trusting in your sense of rhythm more to hit buttons at the right timings.
I have no clue if this game has any widespread appeal, but I really enjoyed it to the point where I collected every single achievement the game had to offer. So that’s probably the best endorsement I could give it.

This was a really fun read, even for someone who hasn’t played ADOFAI before. I like how you start with the simple version of the mechanic and then contrast it with the chaos later levels, because it shows how the same core idea can scale in difficulty.
Alright so you are those people who create those impossible maps that takes me like 2 weeks to beat
Hi Aakash,
A Dance of Fire and Ice sounded fun and looked fun based on your first screenshot, then when I read on and saw the second screenshot of the game, I decided maybe it’s not that fun, ha. I don’t really play computer games, but I do enjoy puzzles and pattern/rhythm type games so could probably last the first round or two. Is ADOFAI free to play?
I promise most of the game isn’t that bad, it’s just user-submitted stuff that gets that crazy!!!! The game isn’t free but it goes on sale for 2 dollars pretty often, so I’d recommend waiting for a sale.
